DIY Mason Jar Flower Frog

DIY Flower Frog | How Lovely It Is

Hello Friends, Wow it has been while! Today I would like to share a fun and easy project with you. A Mason Jar Flower Frog, what is a flower frog you ask? A flower frog is a device used to arrange flowers. There are several different kinds of flower frogs, some that fit in side the vase or on top like the one I made. Basically they are used to hold the flowers up, and keep them in place. Amazon and Etsy sell them quite inexpensively, but I’m impatient (who can wait two weeks for it to arrive?) and wanted to use it for some flowers a friend gave me.

How to make a Mason Jar Flower Frog

I just gathered some things I already had on hand, a jar, snap ring and some craft wire. Any wire will do, even chicken wire. And few tools a drill, a drill bit, a permanent marker, some wire cutters and gold spray paint (optional).

After gathering up all my supplies, I marked out eight holes around the top of the snap ring with the permanent marker. Mark out as many or few holes as you like, to create a grid pattern. Next I grabbed the cordless drill and very small drill bit. The drill bit only needs to be slightly larger than the wire you are using. Then I drilled the holes through the top of the snap ring downward. (I placed a piece of 2×4 lumber under the ring while drilling to protect the surface as to not drill holes in my kitchen counter. That would be fun to explain to the hubby!)

After drilling out all the holes, I used my craft wire and thread it through the holes and crossing them in the middle. You can make whatever pattern you like, a perfect grid or something haphazard like mine. The idea is to make divided slots. So when you are arranging the flowers in the jar, the flowers stand up straight and don’t fall against each other or the sides of the jar. After I had wire where I wanted it, I snipped the ends with the wire cutters. I then wrapped the ends around one of the cross wires to fasten it.

Next I grabbed my handy dandy gold spray paint and gave it a few coats and let it dry for about an hour. This step is completely optional, I could have left the flower frog as is and had a more rustic look. But I think I have a mild spray paint addiction, seriously I have to stop my self at the thrift stores I want to spray paint everything! The possibilities are endless, painting the flower frog to coordinated with any décor or party theme. Once the lid is dry (if painting) screw the ring on jar and done! Wasn’t that easy?

Then add flowers of your choice. I really do love how it turned out, mainly because I like the look of a short polished arrangement rather than plopping flowers in tall vase. This arrangement looks lovely on its own, but having a grouping of different sizes and heights would look amazing as well.
