Striped Burlap Pillow

Striped Burlap Pillow | How Lovely It Is

Burlap says fall to me, I just love the warm texture and color. I really love the idea of Burlap pillows, so why not make one?

I had some burlap in my fabric stash since last fall. I was going to make a table runner, but haven’t gotten around to it. I measured a pillow I already had, then added an inch to each side for seam allowance and expansion. I cut the burlap to my measurements, then gave it a quick press with the iron.

I used 2″ frog tape evenly spaced on the diagonal to create the stripes.

I used some black craft paint and a foam pouncer to apply the paint.  I just sort of dabbed the paint on until it was the shade I liked. ( I don’t plan on washing the pillow cover, I will just give it a quick vacuum if  it gets dusty. If you would like to be able to wash it, I would recommend using a fabric paint instead.)

When the paint was dry, about an hour later I pulled off the tape.

For the back of the pillow, I used some leftover linen I had from another project. I cut two pieces slightly longer on one side than the burlap, to create an over lap for an envelope pillow cover. (If you have know idea how to make an envelope pillow cover here is a simple tutorial. (I recommend either using a zigzag stich or serger to prevent the burlap from unravelling.) I sewed it together turned it right side out, and gave it light pressing.

Then Insert pillow, give it a fluff, and voila Striped burlap pillow!
